HISTORY

The Vietnam War was a long, complicated war lasting from 1954-1975.

In 1954, the United States began active involvement with the Vietnam War; ongoing conflict stretched back many decades.

The war ended in 1975, when Communist forces seized control of South Vietnam in 1975. The country was unified as the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.


Approximately 2 million people died in the war-more than 58,000 Americans were killed, and 1,161 of them were from Wisconsin.
